GET TO KNOW KŪLOLO

NEW Kūlolo Mochi Brownie

In addition to our Chocolate Mochi Brownie, we’re excited to offer our NEW Kūlolo Mochi Brownie! It’s a chewy, decadent confection, featuring the flavors of taro and coconut. Many, of course, have heard of these two flavors, but in case you’re not too familiar with kūlolo, here’s some brief backstory on this traditional Hawaiian dish:

Taro (kalo, in Hawaiian) is a starchy root vegetable that is a staple food in many Pacific cultures, including Hawaii. Both the leaves and roots are used extensively in traditional cuisine. In the dessert dish kūlolo, taro corms are baked or steamed in an imu or in a standard oven, with coconut milk or the coconut flesh. When cooked in this way the taro becomes a thick, fudge-like pudding with a coconut and caramel-like flavor. Kūlolo often appears as one of the main desserts at a lū`au.

This time-honored dish, beloved by many in Hawaii for generations, served as the source of inspiration for our Kūlolo Mochi Brownie, our newest, not-to-be-missed baked treat. Place your orders here on our website, or purchase it at our Hilo or Ala Moana Center store. Enjoy!
