Food Safety and Quality Manager

Location:

Hilo, Hawaii (on the Big Island)

Big Island Candies is seeking a Food Safety and Quality Manager to become an integral part of our team by:

1)    Executing a set of activities and tests designed to ensure all processes and products are adequate to meet all of the objectives set forth in Big Island Candies’ Quality Management Program, including Preventive Controls and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).

2)    Possessing the skills and knowledge of laboratory equipment and procedures needed to design and perform various analytical laboratory tests on incoming ingredients and finished products, as well as to conduct environmental testing. 

3)    Exhibiting strong verbal and written communication skills, which are needed to work in a team environment with both management and production employees.

4)    Being able to collect and organize quality and production data, to interpret that data, and to correct issues if the results warrant such action.

5)    Being proficient in the use of the Internet to research information, as well as in Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word.

Bachelor of Science degree, relevant experience in the food manufacturing industry and some professional laboratory experience are preferred.

Production Manager

Location: 

Hilo, Hawaii (on The Big Island)

Big Island Candies is seeking a Production Manager for our Celebrations department who will uphold the brand’s standard for producing high-quality products and delivering high-level customer service. Requirements include: Manage special projects, day-to-day operations and seasonal planning, with regards to our specialty-gift program, with a focus on production and inventory management; supervise team to produce elegant, high-quality specialty-gift items.

Essential duties include:

  • Plan and prepare with Celebrations Manager the production of numerous specialty-gift items according to specified deadlines, such as but not limited to rush projects;
  • Schedule sufficient staff to meet daily and weekly operational needs;
  • Motivate, train and manage staff to ensure cohesive, efficient production team;
  • Create, administer, update and maintain employee training program;
  • Receive and check in merchandise, and perform quality inventory-control check;
  • Manage inventory to meet planned stock levels and to change/adjust accordingly to meet consumer demand.

Qualifications and attributes include:

  • Must possess supervisor and management experience, leadership ability and effective team-building skills to direct personnel, as well as to interact with all levels of management;
  • Outstanding organizational skills, and detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy;
  • The ability to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment;
  • A keen sense to distinguish between acceptable and unacceptable finished products and projects;
  • Strong sense of self-motivation with an optimistic attitude, in order to inspire others and motivate fellow workers toward achieving common goals;
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; active listening skills; provide and receive constructive feedback;
  • Practice a high level of confidentiality;
  • Proficient in using the Internet; email; Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.

Hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (non-peak period). During peak season: 8:00 a.m. to approximately 9:00 p.m. During Christmas holiday season, will work extended hours, evening-shift work (approximately 4 weeks), weekends (7-day workweek), nights and/or staggered start time—must be flexible and available to meet operational needs. Customer Service Positions - Seasonal

Ala Moana Store (Honolulu, Oahu)

Three seasonal Customer Service Positions are now open:

Bilingual Customer Service Team Member: Requirements include:

  • Fluency in Japanese to assist our Retail team, as well as ability to serve as an exceptional Brand Ambassador to all of our visitors—local, mainland and international alike.

Cashier CSR: Requirements include:

  • Processing customer transactions at the register, ensuring this final stage of the store experience is accurate, efficient, informative and engaging; convey friendly gratitude to all of our guests for taking the time to visit with us; create a memorable sense of warmth and sincerity to help inspire return customer visits.

Stock Clerk CSR: Requirements include:

  • Loading, transporting and unloading boxes from warehouse to stock room to store shelves (must have ability to lift and move up to 55 lbs.).

Additional requirements for all three positions:

  • Outstanding customer service skills, whereby you could be greeting guests with a smile and an authentic “Aloha”; assisting shoppers, for example answering questions about our products and services, or directing customers to other desired areas of the store; perhaps providing a sample of a delicious treat, with a side of pleasant conversation, never forgetting that heartfelt “Mahalo”;
  • Positive, personable disposition with a natural know-how to upsell and boost sales by interacting with customers; providing informative recommendations;
  • Help to ensure our products and other items on shelves and displays remain superbly presented;
  • Lend a hand to other store-related activities as needed, so an adaptable/flexible nature is essential; display an enthusiastic openness to switch from one task to another, if necessary, in order to provide prompt, effective customer assistance.

Ala Moana Store hours are: Sunday, 10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.; Monday – Saturday, 9:30 a.m. – 9:00 p.m., subject to extended hours during the holidays and peak periods.
